Re: [hylafax-users] route incoming faxes

You're right about the Clara OCR project. However, I understand that this is
very much in a development stage at present. I installed this on my HylaFAX
server but found that the OCR quality was very poor such that it couldn't
recognise a very clear fax which contained just a few words in various
standard fonts. There's no way this could be used in a real life environment
at the moment.

We use Omnipage Pro. 11 here as our standard OCR package and it is 90%+
accurate. Unfortunately, it is a Windows application and I haven't found a
way of running it from the command line such that I could get it to OCR
incoming faxes automatically. For development purposes, I have been OCR'ing
them manually.

There was a very interesting GPL OCR project mentioned a month or two ago,
the Clara OCR project, http://www.claraocr.org/. This looks like it may be
the path to such a solution as you are thinking, all it would require is a
fair amount of inovation.
