You want opinions?  Heh...

Mostly I think that you should consider your application and then go from
there.  If this is low-security and you do not need to handle attachments,
then faxmail will do just dandy for you.  If not, then procmail will be the
most simple approach to the solution.

You could use HylaFAX to make an email-to-fax gateway through a myriad of
methods.  See TPC.INT sources for another method.
