Actually, I suspect you're not.

You can flog me for that, in large part. That's supposed to be my
niche, and I haven't been doing a very good job of it.
I think the problem is that MaxTries is a *client* option. Such
options go in a different place than the server options. For the Unix
client, sendfax, it's usually the hyla.conf file, which resides in
different places in different distributions. See the "Configuration
Parameters" section of your sendfax manual page for the exact location.
If you're using a Windows client, *it* will have to set that parameter,
and different ones, obviously, do it in different places.
