[hylafax-users] Continued sending problems

Hi

Out of desperation I just vaped our hylafax install and reinstalled the rpm
(4.1beta3).
I ran faxsetup and went through and configured it thus:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
The non-default scheduler parameters are:

CountryCode: 44
AreaCode: 01273
-----END QUOTE-----

This then called faxaddmodem which I configured thus:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
The non-default server configuration parameters are:

CountryCode: 44
AreaCode: 01273
FAXNumber: 123456
LongDistancePrefix: 1
InternationalPrefix: 011
DialStringRules: etc/dialrules
SessionTracing: 11
RingsBeforeAnswer: 2
SpeakerVolume: off
GettyArgs: "-h %l dx_%s"
LocalIdentifier: "NothingSetup"
TagLineFont: etc/lutRS18.pcf
TagLineFormat: "From %%l|%c|Page %%P of %%T"
MaxRecvPages: 100
-----END QUOTE-----

It then checked out the modem (a USR Sportster on ttyS0) and reported:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
Probing for best speed to talk to modem: 38400 OK.
-----END QUOTE-----

and reported the modem configuration as:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
ModemFlowControl: rtscts
ModemHardFlowCmd: AT&H1&I0&R2
ModemNoFlowCmd: AT&H0&I0&R1
ModemRate: 38400
ModemResultCodesCmd: ATQ0X4
ModemSetVolumeCmd: "ATM0 ATM1 ATM1 ATM1 ATM1"
ModemSetupAACmd: AT+FAA=1
ModemSetupDCDCmd: AT&C1
ModemSetupDTRCmd: ATS13=1&D2
ModemSoftFlowCmd: AT&H2&I2&R1
Class2BUGCmd: AT+FBU=0
Class2CQQueryCmd: !(0),(0)
Class2NRCmd: AT+FNR=1,1,1,0
Class2SendRTC: yes
-----END QUOTE-----

I then placed the following line in /etc/inittab:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
t0:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0
-----END QUOTE-----

Then edited /var/spool/fax/bin/faxrcvd to insert:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
    # Print the fax
    $FAX2PS $FILE | lpr
-----END QUOTE-----

immediately after the "if [ -f $FILE ]; then" line

At this point I have made no other changes to the hylafax setup, the hylafax
service is running and so is faxgetty.

I then run these commands:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
-(root@ronin)-(/var/spool/fax)- file /tmp/sambafax.21672
/tmp/sambafax.21672: PostScript document text conforming at level 3.0
-(root@ronin)-(/var/spool/fax)- sendfax -n -f root -d 01273388334
/tmp/sambafax.21672
request id is 1 (group id 1) for host localhost (1 file)
-----END QUOTE-----

(that file was the output of an earlier sambafax session)

at this point faxstat no longer reports the modem as "Running and idle", but
as "Waiting for the modem to come ready". The following output appears in
/var/log/messages:

----BEGIN QUOTE----
May 2 16:45:38 ronin FaxQueuer[21851]: SUBMIT JOB 1
May 2 16:45:41 ronin FaxGetty[21836]: ANSWER: Can not lock modem device
May 2 16:45:47 ronin FaxSend[21874]: MODEM USROBOTICS SPORTSTER V.34+ FAX /
May 2 16:45:47 ronin FaxSend[21874]: SEND FAX: JOB 1 DEST 01273234567
COMMID 00000007
May 2 16:45:55 ronin FaxSend[21874]: SEND FAILED: Can not setup modem
May 2 16:46:27 ronin FaxGetty[21836]: /dev/ttyS0: Can not initialize modem.
-----END QUOTE-----

Now the whole system appears broken - it will not receive any more faxes and
complains that the modem is wedged.

I'm hoping someone will be able to point at something I've done and say
"stupid, you got that wrong" because I'm totally stumped.

Does anyone actually use the RPM? The only thing I can think of is that the
RPM is broken somehow. For comparison, this is the output of "rpm -qi
hylafax":
