[hylafax-users] Problems with getty DATA connections

Hello Hylafax-ers,

I'm relatively new to Hylafax and do not subscribe to this list, so please
forgive any "newbie ignorance" I may show.

I'm having difficulties trying to configure a working dial-up DATA server.
[Configuration Hylafax v4.0p12, Linux (Mandrake 7.1), and a HAYES 56K fax
modem]. All fax services seem to work excellently, and the modem's
auto-answer correctly identifies the caller as FAX or DATA. However,
whenever making a DATA call into this server, the connection is terminated
immediately. The typical log when this occurs is:

-----------------------------------
Dec 03 15:44:23.01: [ 1529]: SESSION BEGIN 00000036 14085679406
Dec 03 15:44:23.01: [ 1529]: <-- [4:ATA\r]
Dec 03 15:44:39.69: [ 1529]: --> [20:CONNECT 24000 V42bis]
Dec 03 15:44:39.69: [ 1529]: ANSWER: DATA CONNECTION
Dec 03 15:44:39.69: [ 1529]: GETTY: START "/sbin/getty -h -r0 modem 115200",
pid 19454
Dec 03 15:44:42.09: [ 1529]: GETTY: exit status 0
Dec 03 15:44:42.09: [ 1529]: SESSION END
------------------------------------

I suspect that the "getty" program is closing the port when it starts and
this may cause the modem to hang-up the line. Does this sound correct?

In any event, I would like to try using "mgetty" instead of "getty" to help
solve this problem and make it easier to establish ppp connections. Do I
need to recompile Hylafax or can I modify this in a configuration file
somewhere?

Please respond to the e-mail address below.

TIA for any help.

Regards,
Mark Naley
