I'm not a SuSE user, so forgive me if this is a stupid comment.

Among the HylaFAX public releases (some released by HylaFAX developers and
some released by well-intended individuals) there are binaries available
which are incompatible with some versions of libtiff.  It goes both ways,
older ones incompatible with new versions of libtiff, and also newer ones
incompatible with older versions of libtiff.  The bottom line (until the
next public release of source code occurs) is that you have to harmonize
the two packages: hylafax and libtiff.

I bring this up because your symptoms (good fax log but partial viewable
fax) appear to be similar to those which would occur under an
incompatibility situation.  Follow the instructions at
http://www.hylafax.org/howto/install.html#ss2.3, and I'm certain that
you'll have this right.
