So I finally realize, that the version marked as 'current' on the ftp
server is unmaintained? And if it is a FAQ, then why is it not put there? I
certainly never saw any comment on the Website saying 'By the way: This
version (although not marked Beta in any way) does NOT compile on RedHat
Linux!'. *This* would justify going all *sigh* on me - but thanks anyway
for the hint.

By the way, it _did_ compile when I used the SRPM of the v4.0pl2 and made
some corrections to several header-files.
