Provided all the programs respect the UUCP locking conventions and all have
been correctly configured for this, there should be no problem.  Typical
plug and play linux problems are failing to realise that /dev/modem and
/dev/ttyS1 are different devices to UUCP locking (in my view, /dev/modem
should never have been invented).  Typical
