In spite of what the provider's lingo may be, ADSL is connected using a 
router that is a terminal adapter and is not a modem. It is not part of the 
voice spectra.

Your fax modem uses the voice part of the spectrum.

So, unless you are using the analog portion in say, a voice call, it is 
available for use to your modem without interference with the ADSL traffic.

Your fax modem needs a filter, just as any other telephone set would need too.
