I needed GCC *and* GPP (Gnu C++) to get it compiled.

I have a Zyxel u-1496e modem what's recommended on the modem-page. But it
has RTN problems, so I think it's better not to trust the modem page if it's
about RTN problems...

I think the USR/3COM modem will work fine with the patch.
