Compiling HylaFAX v4.0beta2 on Solaris 7 with gcc 2.8.1, libstdc++ 2.8.1.1, libg++ 2.8.1.1a

Hello everybody.

I know this sort of posting has come up before but I'm gonna ask again to
see if there was a resolution.

I have been using Solaris 2.6 with HylaFAX v4.0beta2 on a Sparc 20 for about
2 months. Unfortunately, the MIS people had forced me into upgrading to
Solaris 7 thereby trashing all or most of the programs that compiled fine
previously.

In any case, I'm now trying to compile HylaFAX v4.0beta2 on Solaris 7
(sparc) with gcc 2.8.1, libstdc++ 2.8.1.1, and libg++ 2.8.1.1a which were
all recompiled on that box. I've encountered some problems with using Tiff
v3.5.4 and decided to go to Tiff v3.4beta where configure just does not want
to move forward with the testing when it hits the version check for TIFF. I
scoured through the mailing list archives and tried everything I saw
including setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH, removing libtiff.so in the
/usr/openwin/lib directory to no avail. I remebered that someone had told
me to edit the configure script to change the value in the checking
mechanism to the exact Tiff version to bypass that problem.

I've tried almost anything I can think of. I know Solaris 7 is pretty new
and I'm pushing my luck. If somebody has any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks.

Lenon Chang
