Looks like some process owns the line, *OR* the line has not been configured
with setserial. Is this an internal modem? Have you run isapnp to configure
it if it is?

That's good. Run "fuser /dev/ttyS0" to see what process owns the port, and
check out /var/lock/ for lock files.

Booting to DOS is *NOT* gonna help you here. DOS handles the ports very,
very differently.
