hylafax reliability

I came to hylafax with great expectations of its reliability and stability.
I cannot achieve either with my system. Should I revert to an older non-beta
version? (I am currently running hylafax-4.1beta1-1rh6.i386.rpm under RH
Linux 6.1)

Problems:

1- about 30% of incoming faxes fail with Unspecified Receive Phase B
error (code 70). The failure seems to be associated with particular senders
(ie. sending fax machines either always work or always fail). There is no
correlation with the connection speed (both 9600 or 14000 baud connections
fail).

2- whenever an incoming fax fails, faxgetty goes deaf. Any further incoming
calls are not answered. The only recourse is to delete the LOCK file and
kill the faxgetty process (which respawns itself).

I understand that (1) is probably a modem configuration thing (I am using
Rockwell chipset in Class 2) since the same modem was running 100% with
another fax server package. Does anyone have any information about Phase B
errors? What do they mean? Log snippet follows at the end of this email.

What does this line represent?

It looks like some garbage characters....

I am more concerned about problem (2) though. It has more to do with the
workings of hylafax. Is it a general reliability problem? A known bug? Or
something screwy in my configuration?

Thank you to anyone with any advice (however small it is appreciated)....
