faxes are sent only after running faxsetup

hi,

i've installed hylafax 4.1beta1-1rh6 from a rpm package for red hat linux,
kernel ver. 2.2.5
it is working with an external modem "at&t dataport 2001", firmware rev n. 231.
my modem is attachet at com2 (/dev/ttyS1).

i can send faxes with hylafax, only after running the "faxsetup" program.

if i try to send a fax directly, the logs shows:

/var/spool/fax/status/ttyS1
[root@servidor status]# tail -f ttyS1
Waiting for modem to come ready

[root@servidor fax]# sendfax -n -d 3333804 /etc/motd
request id is 55 (group id 55) for host localhost (1 file)
[root@servidor fax]#

/var/log/messages
Oct 13 22:49:23 servidor HylaFAX[1090]: Filesystem has SysV-style file
creation.
out 13 22:49:23 servidor FaxQueuer[801]: SUBMIT JOB 55

and it stayns on it. the fax won't go.

then i run "faxsetup":
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
[root@servidor /root]# faxsetup

Setup program for HylaFAX (tm) 4.1beta1.

Created for i686-pc-linux on Thu Jul 1 15:05:50 BST 1999.

Reading cached parameters from /var/spool/fax/etc/setup.cache.

The file:

it does not exist on the system is not a fatal error. If the
program resides in a different location and you do not want to
install a symbolic link for /sbin/vgetty that points to your program
then you must reconfigure and rebuild HylaFAX from source code.

Restarting HylaFAX server processes.

You have a HylaFAX scheduler process running. faxq will be
restarted shortly, as soon as some other work has been completed.
Can I terminate this faxq process (801) [yes]?
Should I restart the HylaFAX server processes [yes]?

/etc/rc.d/init.d/hylafax start
HylaFAX: faxq hfaxd (without old protocol or SNPP support).

You do not appear to be using faxgetty to notify the HylaFAX scheduler
about new modems and/or their status. This means that you must use the
faxmodem program to inform the new faxq process about the modems you
want to have scheduled by HylaFAX. Beware that if you have modems that
require non-default capabilities specified to faxmodem then you should
read faxmodem(1M) manual page and do this work yourself (since this
script is not intelligent enough to automatically figure out the modem
capabilities and supply the appropriate arguments).

Should I run faxmodem for each configured modem [yes]?
/usr/sbin/faxmodem ttyS1

Done verifying system setup.

this program gives some massages, that can't find vgetty and egetty, do i
need to install these programs??
it says that i need to make a link:
Make /var/spool/fax/bin/ps2fax a link to /var/spool/fax/bin/ps2fax.gs.
but the link already exists.

after running faxsetup, all the faxes that were in the queue were sent,
and the new faxes are sent imediatelly.
then if i reboot the server or if i turn the modem off, the problem begins
again.

why this is happening?

how can i solve the problem??
