It's part of the "psmisc" package, which was certainly installed by
default on the RedHat 6.0 machines *I've* done. It's /usr/sbin/fuser:
/usr/sbin isn't necessarily in the default path, which RedHat really
needs to set more properly.

To fix this, go to /etc/profile.d, and add *.sh or *.csh scripts to
alter the path to your taste for all users on your machine. Those
files are read at login time, depending on your choice of shell.

Jeff? Try running fuser on the modem line by hand, and see what you
get. If it's really not installed on you system, many other thihngs
are going to break.

The faxaddmodem, etc. scripts really on some quite complicated shell
scripting to interpret all the messages correctly. (Sam Leffler, the
original author, was a ghod of shell scripting, near as I can tell!)
So very subtle changes in the behavior of the most basic utilities can
sometimes cause issues, which the maintainers have fun fun trying to
handle....

Anyway, Jeff? Could you also double check whether /dev/modem on your
system is linked to /dev/ttyS1, and whether anything is on /dev/cua1,
/dev/cua3, or /dev/ttyS3 (which share the same IRQ, gosh darn DOS's
old brain deadness!)

And remind us: does minicom or kermit work for you? Is it actually
possible to get anything else to communicate with the modem?
