flexfax: "EL" at end of sent faxes

Hi,
    I'm running HylaFAX on a Sun under Solaris 2.6.  I want to create a web 
to fax gateway so I am invoking sendfax with a cgi script written in Perl 
(5.004_04).  Everything works fine except the two characters "EL" are 
mysteriously appended to all of the faxes I send out.  It seems to be a 
problem with invoking sendfax from Perl, since if I issue the same commands 
on the command line I don't have this problem.  I have even downloaded 
someone else's scripts which use a different approach and ended up with the 
same problem.
    Has anyone else seen this behavior?  Were you able to fix it?
