HylaFAX: Unspecified Transmit Phase B error (code 20)

Applies to

S.u.S.E. Linux: Version 5.2
Hylafax: Version 4.0pl2

Symptom:

You have one of the following modems :

      U.S. Robotics Sportster Flash
      U.S. Robotics Sportster Message Plus
      3Com U.S.Robotics 56K Voice Faxmodem

When sending faxes with HylaFAX the modem aborts the transmission. In the logfile
/var/log/messages the following error messages can be found :

May 25 17:56:28.95: [  464]: MODEM TIMEOUT: reading line from modem
May 25 17:56:28.95: [  464]: REMOTE HANGUP: Unspecified Transmit Phase B error
+(code 20)
May 25 17:56:28.95: [  464]: SEND FAILED: Unspecified Transmit Phase B error

Cause:

This is most likely a bug of HylaFAX, which cannot handle the error messages of
the U.S. Robotics modem in a correct way.

Solution:

Replace the line

Class2NRCmd:            AT+FNR=1,1,1,1  # setup status reporting command

by

Class2NRCmd:            AT+FNR=1,1,1,0  # setup status reporting command

in the file /var/spool/fax/etc/config.modem
