It's a script. Mine used to look like this (I've added some options so
you can see what you can do with it ) :

----%<------------%<---------------%<----------------%<----------
#!/bin/sh
#
# mailfax - email to fax gateway for sendmail
#
# This file should be installed as /usr/local/lib/fax/mailfax
# (or whatever is specified in the sendmail.cf file).
#
# Things to note re faxmail options
#
# -v verbose output (faxlog needs mode 666 permissions)
# -n no cover page
# -p 11 increase point size to 11
# -M set left margin to 0.75 inches, top margin to 2.00 inches
# -d direct delivery in the form: test@723304.FAX pkw@elgro.co.uk
#
#
/usr/local/bin/faxmail -v -n -p 11 \
        -Ml=0.75in,t=2.00in -d "$1@$2" "$3" 2>>/var/log/faxlog

----%<------------%<---------------%<----------------%<----------

But I say 'used to' because from sendmail version 8.8.7 things have
changed. You do not need a script because sendmail calls the faxmail
program directly. Any parameters you need now go in the faxmail.conf
configuration file.

Hope you are not manually editing the sendmail.cf file?
Rather than the advice of the v4.0pl2 mailfax.sh-sendmail file, I
use and would recommend employing the m4 macros to regenerate the
.cf file from a '.mc' file after adding a 'MAILER(fax)' line.

And that's it.
