flexfax: textfmt ascii conversion problem (formfeed ignored)

I am running HylaFax 4.0pl0 on an RS/6000 model 43P, AIX 4.2.1; using a
Multitech ZDX2834 modem.

I am using the following command in a pipe to translate an ascii data
stream into postscript pages suitable for piping into sendfax. 

cat /temp/test.txt |textfmt -B -c -s NA-LET -p 8 

The source text is formatted for 132 columns wide (thus the -p 8 to
change to an appropriate font size), and contains a number of formfeeds
(hex 0c). The text comes out looking great, but it seems to ignore the
form feeds. These pages are of varying lengths, and each starts with a
header (listing page number and some other info). When faxed, all pages
come out one after the other (not even a blank line in between), even
where the formfeed occours.

I have tried various options in the -s parameter (default, let), but no
change. I have tested both by piping the above result directly to a
printer and to sendfax, and both show the same results.

Any suggestions?
