Well, Digi has something that could be made to work for their PortServer
line of products.  It is in the unsupported area (use at your own risk).
It is called rtty.  This program uses a PTY port and maps it to a direct
connection to an individual port on the Portserver.  A couple of problems
that I ran into in my situation;  1) I'm on AT&T Unix SVR3  and had
troubles getting it to work with it's networking and PTY's,  2) The darn
thing keeps the port assigned to one machine all the time.  I only want
the connection grabbed when needed so other machines can use it.

Anyways it's there for Sun, SCO, HP, and maybe Linux (haven't looked
