i've found hayes (accura) modems to be very poor quality.. in data mode,
zoltrix brand internal modems especially have only a 10-20% chance of
connecting successfully.  they also lose their nvram settings when the
power is removed and the modem is turned on.

stay away from hayes modems if you can.
