Sam is no longer on the mailing list, because he's trying to hold down a

The information in the various configuration files is in fact somewhat
redundant. It lets you set an overll configuration for the hfaxd and
faxstat behavior, the site's modem lines, and the individual
serial lines.

The only ones you absolutely have to have are created when you run
faxsetup and faxaddmodem. The rest are optional and unused at
most sites.
