repeated and squished pages in HylaFAX 4.0pl0 and Solaris 2.4

I've searched the FAQ and the mailing list archives for this one to no
avail...

I'm running HylaFAX 4.0pl0 on an IPX running Solaris 2.4 with a
Multitech 2834ZDX 28.8 fax modem on cua/a, which I'm trying to
use in Class 2 mode (the modem doesn't support 2.0).

When I send a fax (to my PC, which runs Windows 95, QuickLink II
fax software with an AT&T Paradyne 14.4 modem), the modems connect,
then the first page of a two-page fax is sent 3 times, then a fourth
page (can't tell if it's the second page or another copy of the
first) is sent, but it's so squished it fits in about half an inch
at the top of the page. An EOP is never sent; instead the call is
aborted, according to this portion of the session log:

Feb 23 08:07:51.74: [23292]: SENT 23896 bytes of data

I'm using software flow control because of what I've read about
bugs in Solaris 2.4 with hardware flow control, but I've had the
same behavior both ways.

I have no problem receiving faxes, and they seem to be okay in
their format.

The troubleshooting documentation mentions a patch for Solaris 2.4
to make it "do" hardware flow control. Does anyone know what that
patch number is? I found one that looked like it might help, number
102062, but it's not available on the public patch site, and I don`t
have a service contract.

Upgrading to Solaris 2.5 is not currently an option, at least not
until I make some more money this year (actually, I'm more likely
to go to Linux). Would I be better off using
the AT&T modem instead of the Multitech? I decided to go with the
Multitech because it supports Class2, which the AT&T does not, and
because I'd also like to use it for dialup someday.

I don't know much about modems, so please be gentle...

Please reply directly to me if you can help -- I'm not subscribed to
this list; I only read the archives.

Thanks very much for any help!
