  That's interesting.  When I used "cu" I do not remember seeing the
CONNECT message.  I just ran another test and the same message was
there.

  Sounds like it's a flaky modem (guess who didn't read the FAQ 
carefully before he bought the modems?!).  I will fiddle with the settings.
