K56flex MODEMS
October, 1997
INTRODUCTION
October 1997
There are rivals in the new 56K modem technology ~ US Robotics was the
first company to introduce a modem with the x2 standard.
Rockwell and Lucent came up with a chip set using a version called
K56flex.
The ITU (International Telecommunications Union) has still to
decide which will become the offical standard, with both a determining
standard and a final standard to be settled.
NOTES
- The Multitech K56flex modem ( rom level reports as
'V1.01-K56-DLS') runs okay in Class 1 but cannot
cope with adaptive answer.
- Similar problems to the earlier V34bis are reported for the new
USR Sportster 56K/x2. Illegal characters where CR-LF
pairs should be are causing Unspecified Transmit Phase B
errors. The best suggestion at the moment is to run this modem in
Class 1.
