There isn't any documentation at all relating to this feature, AFAIK.
But if you hfaxd was compiled with PAM support it 'just works'.
throw:/opt/hylafax/sbin # ldd hfaxd
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
libfaxutil.so => /opt/hylafax/lib/libfaxutil.so (0x40018000)
libpam.so.0 => /lib/libpam.so.0 (0x4008d000)
libpam_misc.so.0 => /lib/libpam_misc.so.0 (0x40095000)
...
It appears to just use the default PAM stack, although it would be nice
if it looked for a "hylafax" stack.
