Re: [hylafax-users] Weirdness

Tried connecting over the 'net to the Hylafax server (yes, I opened two
ports to it) and got "please login with user and pass".

Since I'm using Frog Fax@Mail, and it doesn't do passwords, I put in
the global "allow" in the hosts.hfaxd file.

Tried connecting over the 'net and could never get connected.

Tried connecting at home, and after about 40 seconds it FINALLY let me
in.

On a hunch, I put my host in the /etc/hosts with a name. Tried
connecting again and it was almost instant.

Why is it reverse looking up?

For the ability to use hostnames in hosts.hfaxd and for security purposes. See:

http://bugs.hylafax.org/show_bug.cgi?id=610

How do I turn this off?

I'm not sure that there's a HylaFAX configuration way to do it. Maybe you can disable things by disabling DNS on the system itself.

Why was it not letting me connect from over the 'net?

Firewall, maybe.

Thanks,

Lee.
