Re: [hylafax-users] PDF file format

Thanks for the tip. I wish there was some way for either the “faxdispatch” or “faxrcvd” apps to produce a PDF file and save it to a directory on the server. You would think since hylafax can produce a PDF from a TIFF file, it could also save it to a directory instead of only allowing it to be emailed.

I should have mentioned the file that let's you tell HylaFAX what to do after it's done doing what it does:  ./etc/FaxDispatch

mine looks like this (workfax is a shell that takes the file name of the tif as an argument)...

# cat FaxDispatch
NOTIFY_FAXMASTER=never
workfax FNAME=`basename $FILE`

I am currently using ImageMagick to do save inbound faxes as PDF's.

The command line:

convert fax000123.tif fax000123.pdf

It works well with faxes up to about 20 pages, after that it gets very slow and/or crashes the server.

I am working on a solution to the limited number of pages using fop, this seems to be much more efficient. Here is a sketch of my idea, more work needs to be done.

I am new to Hylafax and installed my first fax server just a few days ago.

I’m using Fedora Core 5, HylaFax  4.2.5, MultiTech ISI Fax 4-modem, ttyS0, ttyS1, ttyS2, ttyS3. All are working fine receiving faxes and the email with .pdf attachment works too.

The only thing I would like to do is have HylaFax receive the faxes as PDF files instead of TIFF files. I looked through the archives and could not find a good solution. The idea is to have people hit the webserver on the Fax Server and be able to view the PDF files instead of TIFF.

Thanks,
