In my opinion the relatively recent direction that the hylafax.org website has taken is at fault here, as anyone can write "official-looking content"... and this kind of misleading only devalues everything else associated with it.

Quite frankly it doesn't matter _WHO_ writes the content, it can always be in error

While it is true that official documentation can be in error it has significant value over other documentation in that 1) a discrepancy between it and actual program behavior indicates a shortcoming in the software or a shortcoming in the documentation itself, 2) there is an element of responsibility on the part of the officials to remedy the shortcoming, and 3) one would generally expect official documentation to contain fewer errors than unofficial documentation. With unofficial documentation the reader does not have these assurances and is thus required to "take it for whatever it's worth" as errors may go unchecked and unfixed indefinitely. The problem with putting gobs of unofficial "free-for-all" content under the under the same banner as official documentation is that it gives the unofficial documentation a misleading sense of being official and unwary readers will misunderstand.
