Re: [hylafax-users] Control of signaling rate?

If you're dealing with a typical human-to-machine interface then I agree that the best thing to do is to error-out. So in this case sendfax probably shouldn't ignore the incorrect "-B 1200" parameter.

But if we're talking about machine-to-machine interfaces, then sometimes it's best to "be liberal in what we accept, conservative in what we send" so that we don't get people into situations where nothing happens and they aren't likely to see the error message, either. So if we're talking about what faxq or faxsend should do, then I tend to believe that those programs need to "think for" the user.

But yes, I'd say this is a case where someone should file a bug report. I try to get those from the user community involved in submitting these kinds of non-critical user-related bug reports in order to attempt some greater involvement by them in the development process. Otherwise I could probably spend all day filing bug reports and never get any of them fixed. :-)

Typical programming paradigm is "if the software can't
do what's requested it shouldn't do anything" (except
perhaps create a log entry indicating something did or
didn't happen as expected or notify someone via some
other mechanism). So, it's better classified a bug in
this case. However, if an option is available (and
apparently there isn't at this time) to configure the behavior then it's a feature.

So is anyone submitting a bug report? :)

Is that a bug or a feature?

I'm not sure what to call it when the user does

something incorrect but

then the software compensates.

Yeah, I dunno what they call that either, I just
know what they call *me*...

Thanks again for your help!
