[hylafax-users] clarification of intent for HylaFAX Sourceforge site
Everyone,
What follows is an attempt at clarification for what my intentions with the Sourceforge site are.
I wish to thank Bill Binko for his grand assistence in helping me verbalize my ideas without it being so easily misunderstood.
I would ask that everyone who participated in the "new community site" thread read the following statements of intent, and if there are any complaints or other comments please express them.
Thank you,
Lee.
========================================================
Hylafax.sf.net represents the leading edge of HylaFAX development. It
intends to present the latest improvements and innovations in the best Fax
software, and to support those "early adopters" who choose to run at the
head of the pack. The resources provided by sf.net (multi-platform test
systems, configuration management, etc) will be used to further the state
of the art of the open source HylaFAX fax management system.
Releases posted at the sf.net site are the most recent version of CVS HEAD
that is deemed "deployable and supportable" by Lee Howard, one of the
HylaFAX community's most active developers. In some rare cases, they may
contain additional bug fixes and experimental code that has not been
integrated with the main code base, but it is not designed to be a
separate line of development (i.e. a fork).
These releases have not undergone the exhaustive testing and vetting
involved with the major releases posted at hylafax.org, and their
interfaces and configurations will be more likely to change over time.
However, they often include new features and critical bug fixes far
earlier than the more stable releases.
Posting these releases independent of the longer-cycle hylafax.org
releases is intended to allow users to experience new features and fixes
eariler and provide feedback before the stable releases are made. It is
also intended to ease supporting these eary adopters which has proved
difficult using the "Use the latest CVS version" approach.
Hylafax.sf.net also contains the man-pages, How-To, and other
documentation matching the latest release posted by Lee. The site is
dedicated to the development and support of the Open-Source HylaFAX fax
software, and leaves commercial advancement and advertisement to
hylafax.org, the HylaFAX wiki, and other capable sites.
