That's right, but, assuming you have latest version, if you use the
modem in class1 you should enable it allowing for maximum
capabilities:
df=0,1,3
ec=1
vr=0-64 

so, for a class1 you could use
faxmodem -c '(0-64),(0-5),(0-4),(0-2),(0,1,3),(1),(0),(0-7)' ttyS0
