Still the same problem!
did a rpm -e hylafax , rpm -e capi4hylafax,
downloaded the new hylafax 4.2.1 and the matching capi4hylafax.
Installed hylafax and capi4hylafax,

fax:/var/spool/fax/etc # rpm -qi hylafax

Version     : 4.2.1                             Vendor: SUSE LINUX 
Products GmbH, Nuernberg, Germany
Release     : 4                             Build Date: Tue Mar 22

hylafax-4.2.1-4.src.rpm

but the problem ist still there.

I can send fax through c2faxsend and receive fax,
but faxstat -r
HylaFAX scheduler on fax: Running
Modem faxCAPI (+49.555.555.20): Running and idle
Service not available, remote server closed connection

tail var/log/messages
Jul 15 14:19:20 fax hfaxd: Str.c++:371: void 
fxStr::resizeInternal(unsigned int): Assertion `data == &emptyString' 
failed.

No client is able to send fax, neither to view the receive queue.

tail hosts.hfaxd
localhost
127.0.0.1
192.168.0.*

It's gonna be a long weekend...
