Re: [hylafax-users] Thunderbird and x-uuencode mail problem

Hi, i am using hylafax 4.2.1-1fc3 rpm on fedora core3 and i want to receive incoming faxes by email.
It looks like hylafax setup defaults to 'x-uuencode' encoding

Actually, it defaults to base64 with mimencode. But, it probably didn't find mimencode on your system and so went with uuencode. uuencode has a base64 option to it, but there was a bug in the 4.2.1 release that prevented proper selection of base64 with uuencode. This has been fixed, as well as the addition of support for the base64-encode program.

(and i've never seen that encoding in a real mail before),

It was popular in the early days, before base64 became popular... generally I saw it used on usenet more than e-mail, though.

and it looks like mozilla thunderbird has problems with it (the decoded file has 0 bytes).

Yes, the Mozilla mail readers don't do uudecoding.

Outlook express decodes it properly, and setting ENCODING='base64' in etc/setup.cache also works for both...

Anyone knows why thunderbird wouldn't decode this properly?

Feature lack.
