Re: [hylafax-users] Dreaded phase C errors

2) Why not run @ 38400 on the port? Any 56K modem should be able to operate at a 38400 line rate. 19200 is fine, but it will notably
slow down larger fax jobs.
ModemRate is the rate at which the software (DTE) communicates with the
modem (DCE). The rate between the sender and the receiver (DCE to DCE)
is limited to what they support, and for the Digi Acceleport running in
Class 1/2/2.0 it is 14400 baud.
So increasing ModemRate beyond 14400 only increases the rate at which
HylaFAX fills the modem's buffer and will increase the frequency at
which the modem invokes flow control. If the modem has a large buffer
then this is okay. If the modem handles flow control well then this is
also okay. But if the modem has a small buffer and does not handle flow
control very well then it could be a problem.
Generally it's best to keep the ModemRate just slightly more than the
maximum negotiated fax speed for untested modems to limit the
possibility of flow control becoming a problem.
