Re: [hylafax-users] MT5634ZPX-PCI poll results - SOLVED - I think

Hi All,

Some of you may remember the wedging issues I was having with
my Multitech MT5634ZPX-PCI modems. I was going 'round and
'round with this because it required turning the PC off AND unplugging
the phone lines from the modems to get them back working.

Many people offered me lots of good advice but in particular Lee
and Steve Tuckner of Multitech went out of their way to try
and track the issue down and resolve it.

I think I finally have solved the problem. I have two PCI modems
that are plugged into a 2 line phone jack.

On Monday of this week I came into the office and our 2nd fax
line was dead. No dial tone, no nothin'.

My friendly SBC phone tech came out and discovered that the 2nd
phone line wires were broken at a distribution box underground out
below the street. He stated that the pairs appeared to have suffered
from flooding and one of the pairs had actually broken.

Looking back at my notes on the wedging, there is a pretty strong
correlation on the wedging and when it was RAINING outside which
flooded the distribution box.

The phone tech then stated with the wiring the way it was it was possible the 2nd line that was failing could have effected the
performance of the 1st line due to the wiring during wet conditions.

Since the line has been repaired the multitech modems have performed
flawlessly with about 2,000-2,500 pages sent and received per line per
day. No wedging, just happy FaxDispatch and confirmation messages.

Given the weirdness of voltages that must have been traveling the wires
I am impressed that the multitechs didn't fry!

I didn't downgrade my firmware and left it at 1.32I and everything is
hunkey dorey.

Long story short, I wanted to provide closure that the problem is in
my book officially resolved. Which is good because I have a 3rd fax line
coming in on the 20th.

Thanks to every one who offered help!

Mike
