I've only successfully used the Lucent and PCTel Linmodems, and both 
work well.

I tried the Conexant ones once, and they were buggy.  I tried the 
Intel/Agere ones a few times, but there were issues, at least with 
Linux 2.6 kernels, if I recall correctly.

I haven't tried any others.
