Re: [hylafax-users] Regarding ISDN & HylaFax

Hi Sunil,

The ISDN fax I could recommend (the cheap and supported by Linux CAPI
drivers) is AVM Fritz!PCI - good enough if your ISDN is going to be set-up
with MSNs. If you would need DDI support you would need one of the active
ISDN controllers for example AVM ISDN Controller B1 and higher models -
the prices start at about 5x the cost of AVM Fritz!PCI wchich is passive
controller.
How many simultaneous connections will be possible depend of the ISDN line
you will buy. In the basic config you are able to do 2 simultaneous
connections. The ISDN fax knows if the line is free from the ISDN
subsystem.

The support for the ISDN faxmodem is available for all linux distributions
however the best is in SuSE - the easiest to setup, monitor, maintain and
supported by default - all components are provided with the distribution
and there is no need for custom-components installation like in other
dists.

On January 10th there will be new ftp (read: free) version of SuSE 9.2
Professional available on ftp.suse.com.
You could buy that distribution also now at any Novell dealer, it's about
90 Euro and you have 3 months free installation support.

Best regards,

Sylwester
