You seem to be indicating that it does this without any calls coming in or calls going out. Is that correct? The modems change from "Running and idle" without any call?


If that's the case then faxgetty is detecting some activity on the modem or a lockfile creation which then causes it to change status as you've indicated. It will then reinitialize when it trusts that it can retake the modem.

Is it possible that you're running more than one faxgetty process on each modem at the same time?
