Yes, both boxes are on the internal network, but for some reason your suggested transport map didn't work. However I got it running by defining mybox.mydomain.tld as the SMTP server in myotherbox, and this worked.

Are both of these boxes on the internal network?
Adding an entry to the transport map on (myotherbox) should work, e.g:
fax.mybox.mydomain.tld smtp:[ip.of.fax.server]
