Thanks for the quick reply.

See 'man dialrules' and set up some other character to translate into #.

Does this mean that, if a # is added to the number in the dialrules, this will cause the modem to dial the "hash mark tone" and not be interpreted as a subaddress? I.e. its only sendfax that uses the # for this purpose and since the dialrules are applied after sendfax has parsed the number, the # loses this special meaning later on in the chain.
