We've had problems with USB modems under 2.6 (different kernel module than
acm.o).  There is a known bug in the early versions of the 2.6 kernel
related to USB modems.  We haven't had a chance to try a later SUSE kernel
to see if it solves our problem, but the one that ships with SUSE
Enterprise Linux 9.0 has problems.  So, we're running two modems short.
