I'm trying to start fresh on a Debian Woody (3) Linux box. I'm getting
warnings after installing 4.1.8 from source. Previously I removed
4.1.1
binary.
At first the directory /usr/share/ghostscript/common does not exist. I
uninstalled gs binary and reinstalled it. That appeared to help.
I did faxsetup and faxmodem again to make sure the 4.1.8 settings were
in place.
Look into the hyla.conf file (you installed from source, I don't
remember
the path, "locate hyla.conf").
See the font path and check that at least one of the dirs actually
exists
and contains stuff.
I removed all traces of hylafax from the fresh Woody box and then
installed hylafax 4.1.8 from source. At that point there was no
/etc/hylafax dir. When I ran faxsetup (source install puts executables
in /usr/local/bin or /usr/local/sbin) I get the folliwing warnings
about ghostscript. I don't have vgetty or egetty installed, thus the
warnings.
I have gs files in /var/lib/defoma/gs.d/dirs/fonts and
/usr/share/gs/6.53.
Even after I ran faxsetup /etc/hylafax does not exist. After doing
updatedb, locate does not find hyla.conf. Should I step back to a
previous version? Should I try to dd the files from my RH7.3 box?
--- faxsetup information follows:

Warning: /bin/vgetty does not exist or is not an executable program!
The file:

HylaFAX software optionally uses this program and the fact that
it does not exist on the system is not a fatal error. If the
program resides in a different location and you do not want to
install a symbolic link for /bin/vgetty that points to your program
then you must reconfigure and rebuild HylaFAX from source code.

illegible facsimile from ASCII text.

Warning: Font metric information files were not found!
The font metric information file for the Courier font was not found in

that use this information to format ASCII text for submission as fax

If font metric information is present on your system in a directory

directory or you can specify the appropriate pathname in the
configuration
file /usr/local/lib/fax/hyla.conf with a line of the form:
FontPath: someplace_unexpected
If you do not have the font metric information files loaded on your
system
system you can obtain them by public FTP from the place where you
obtained
the HylaFAX software or from the master FTP site at ftp.sgi.com.

Make /var/spool/hylafax/bin/pdf2fax a link to

Update /var/spool/hylafax/status/any.info.
HylaFAX configuration parameters are:
[1] Init script starts faxq: yes
[2] Init script starts hfaxd yes
[3] Start old protocol: no
[4] Start paging protocol: no
Are these ok [yes]?
