Guilio and Lee, thank you for your rapid responses.  I guess my next
modem will not be USR!  It's funny, my previous understanding was they
had a very high quality reputation.

Anyway, I upped the session tracing and left everything else as it was
(Class 2.0) in the interest of controlled experiment.  I sent a test
message to another number, and it worked.  Then I retried the number
that failed, and got this log.  Does it mean anything to you?

P.S. Do I need to force hylafax to reload after changing the config
parameters, or does it read them afresh each time?

The log ends with the no response to MPS.
