You could try
hylafax stop
and then
hylafax start
from bash I have had a few problems with the modem not responding. also once
you run
faxmodem ttyS0
the following lights on the front of your modem should be on.
CS, RS, TR, MR (atleast I think)
when your ran faxsetup did you tell it to receive calls after a number or
rings or did you leave that blank.

I get that Hylafax scheduler is running and for Modem on ttyS1 I have
"waiting for modem to come ready".
