[hylafax-users] HF v 4.1.5 problems
After reading everything I can find and googleing for hours I feel I
need to ask for help on my first hylafax install.
We are wanting to set up a receive only system at this time. I see that
the sportsters seem to have difficulties but apparently they work as
class 1 devices. Is that correct? I am sure the issue si going to be
some boneheaded thing that I have missed but I sure would like to find
it. ( my estimate to set this up was 8 hours and I am getting close :(
any tips appreciated.
Specifics:
Redhat 8.0
hylafax installed from binary rpm hylafax-4.1.5-1rh8.i386.rpm
External USR sportster 56K faxmodem modem:
from ati7 in minicom
ati7
Configuration Profile...
Product type US/Canada External
Options V32bis,V.34+,x2
Fax Options Class 1/Class 2.0
Line Options Caller ID, Distinctive Ring
Clock Freq 92.0Mhz
Eprom 256k
Ram 64k
EPROM date 2/20/97
DSP date 2/20/97
EPROM rev 4.0.1 DSP rev 10.2.1 OK
The issue is that after running faxsetup and adding the faxgetty line
to /etc/inittab :
t2:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0
and running
telinit q
and then starting the service with
service hylafax start
[root@sambatest bhughes]# service hylafax start
Starting HylaFAX queue manager (faxq): [ OK ]
Starting HylaFAX server (hfaxd): ar/log/messages [ OK ]
Restarting HylaFAX modem manager (faxgetty): [ OK ]
faxstat reports :
[root@sambatest bhughes]# faxstat
HylaFAX scheduler on sambatest.internal.stanfieldodell.com: Running
Modem ttyS0 (+1.918.664-4119): Waiting for modem to come free
I can't get the modem to initialize. I think I have set the logging as
high as it goes but all I get in /var/log/messages is the following:
