Have a look at the WHFC-website: www.uli-eckhardt.de/whfc.
very short description:
- install a postscript printer driver (some work good, some not; Apple
LaserWriter ... is the favorite choice)
- install WHFC and register the port redirector
- Connect the printer with the FAX: port
- configure WHFC

No, WHFC is a redirection of a printers output to the HylaFAX-server.
