thats a very good question and i?d be very interested in the answer as well.

I found out that my fax quality with hylafax is pretty poor (even when set
to "high quality" in cypheus for example)

If I send the same document by Hylafax and traditional
fax device the quality result is different. I know
the problem is on Ghoscript conversion from Poscript
format into TIFF (dithering???).
How can I obtain the same document result of a traditional
fax with Hylafax/Ghostscript ???
