Hi,
I think the distributions change the packages' config directories to their 
will, but I know for sure that these two types haven't the same config 
directories: if You uninstall the distributions' package and will install the 
sources package, then You can erase the directories (or rename them) created 
by the distribution, I did this on my debian: the package of woody is 
/etc/hylafax etc and the original sources have their config files installed 
in /var/spool/hylafax/etc and I erased the /etc/hylafax directory and 
everything seems work fine. Though the binary files are in /usr/local/bin and 
the doc and stuff is in /usr/loca/ directories when HylaFAX installed by 
sources.
