Re: [hylafax-users] Barcode
Paul,
I have developed code for reading BarCode 39 and Barcode 25 on documents
scanned at 200 dpi and above. We use this code as part of our scanning
product to automatically store documents under a name/number that has
been barcoded on the document. The barcodes were placed on the documents
either in the original printing on laser printers or dot matrix printers
or added to the documents after printing using stickers. Restrictions as
to the legal character set, leading or trailing characters and length of
the barcode can be set to the software can discern the correct bar code
on the page if there are multiple barcodes on the page. The code also
handles checksum in the barcode 25 format.
The code reads the barcode anywhere on the document or can be constrained
to look at a certain rectangle. The code does not handle upside down or
90 degree rotations. The barcode cannot be skewed such that a horizontal
line through the barcode does not pass through both ends. We have been
using it for years at have tuned it for a high degree of accuracy on low
quality documents. I could package this code in a form that could be used
as a unix utility that could take parameters that specify the TIFF file,
optional rectangle to restrict looking for bar code in, and an optional
template to restrict the form of the barcode, and output the bar code
found to standard out. The cost of the development would be $5800 and you
would receive the source code the program. Let me know if this would be
agreeable to you.
